The Mediterranean Diet

Ah, yes. Another diet fad. Here we go again. Recently, the Mediterranean Diet has been getting some media attention. Even webmd.com posted an article on it’s health benefits. Is this it? Is this the one that is the end all be all for dieters? Well, yes and no. The Mediterranean Diet is a healthy, well balanced diet; and therein lies the secret. The diet revolves around simple, plant-based cooking, with the majority of each meal focused on fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans and seeds, with a few nuts and regular use of extra virgin olive oil. Refined sugar and flour are rarely used and fats other than olive oil are a rarity. So here we are once again- eat good fats (in moderation), more fish, less red meat, limit sugar and your health should improve.
